Young’s Auctions present The Festive Sale, an auction including letters and autographs, paintings, works of art, wine and spirits, and an extensive stamp section. At its centre is a single owner archive compiled by the Christy family, made up of letters and signatures sent to lecture agent Gerald Christy and his relatives. Correspondents include Ernest Shackleton, Captain Robert Falcon Scott, Fridtjof Nansen, Edward Whymper, Arthur Conan Doyle, John Masefield and Winston Churchill, alongside letters from Florence Nightingale. There is also a group of Ernest Thompson Seton correspondence to Robert Miller Christy, including a paquebot letter discussing the Titanic, and watercolours of wolves by Seton himself.

Paintings include works by Richard Eurich RA, David Tindle RA, Robert Medley, Tom Coates and Ian Greensitt, together with harbour and estuary scenes by John Christopher Temple Willis. Among the works of art are a large Garrard & Co silver model of a mare and foal, a late 17th century walnut coffre fort, a bronze by Otto Glauflügel, an early 20th century Thai bronze Buddha, a Forest Toys of Brockenhurst farmyard by Frank Whittington and a Mintons majolica monkey teapot. The sale also includes a Rolling Stones group autograph from around 1963, a bird cage automaton, an oculist’s trade sign, 18th century English porcelain and Victorian scrap albums.

The sale opens with wine and spirits, including a 1985 Macallan by Gordon & MacPhail, Krug Grande Cuvée, 2004 Bollinger La Grande Année, Tignanello, Guado al Tasso and 2015 Château Lynch-Bages. It closes with a large philatelic section led by a run of 1840 Penny Blacks plated from 1a to 11, alongside 2d blues, Victorian line engraved and surface printed issues, Edwardian and George V rarities including Seahorses, mint GB commemoratives and Commonwealth and world collections.
