Volkswagen 1200, approx. In 1957, 1:38 scale, LEGO had been asked to make VW Bubbla (VW Type 1) models for the VW factory in Wolfsburg for promotional activities. The models were given away to customers who had bought a VW Bubble. LEGO only produced them for a very short time, probably because Schuco (regular producer until this time) could not produce enough models for VW dealers and their customers. Too many VW Bubble orders at this time in Wolfsburg. So VW asked LEGO to produce this model as well. The scale is not exactly 1/38. The original dimensions of a VW 1200 are L / W / H: 4070 mm x 1540 mm x 1500 mm. The dimensions of the model are L / W / H: 120 mm x 45 mm x 40 mm. So the scale is: L = 1 / 33.917; W = 1 / 34.222; H = 1 / 37.50. The bubble has a metal base plate and rubber tires.

At VW dealerships there was a board with eight different colored models, showing the colors of the real VW cars.
