After studies at the Technical School's evening classes and the Higher School of Industrial Design in Stockholm 1925-29, Eric Nordlöw was admitted to the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts, where he studied 1929-32.
He later also studied at the Académie Julian in Paris in 1948.
Eric Nordlöw was an avid traveler and undertook a large number of study trips to Italy, France, and
Spain during the 1940s and 1950s. At times he resided in Tenerife, a place that perhaps inspired him more than any other. In oil, watercolor, gouache, and etching, Eric Nordlöw worked in a realistic tradition, interested in the reality he encountered during his many travels in the South. He was primarily captivated by the people, not only by their picturesque appearance but also by their personalities, which he sought to interpret in an objective, coloristically subdued portrait and figure painting.

Eric Nordlöw held solo exhibitions in Umeå in 1938, Hedemora in 1943, 1944, 1949, and 1954, Stockholm in 1950, Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife in 1952, Ludvika, Borlänge, and Avesta in 1954, Flen in 1955 and 1956, and Eksjö in 1956. He participated in several of the Swedish General Art Association's exhibitions, "God konst" at the Nationalmuseum in 1945, the Hedemora 500th Anniversary Exhibition in 1946, the Nordic Graphic Union's exhibition in Stockholm in 1948, and the Swedish Ex-Libris Association's exhibition at the Nordic Museum the same year, as well as in exhibitions organized by the Graphic Society.
