Charles Johann Palmié (1863-1911), Summer landscape with cornfields, oil on wood, signed and inscribed 'München', on the reverse with an old label from the annual exhibition at the Munich Glaspalast 1899, approx. 34 x 50 cm, with frame approx. 51 x 67 cm.

Palmié began his career in Dresden with training as a decorative painter and later moved to Munich, where he studied under August Fink. Initially, he created rather dark-toned motifs, but inspired by the French avant-garde, he developed an increasingly brighter impressionist style. As a formative figure in the Munich art scene, he discovered the Kallmünz artists' colony in 1901 and was a co-founder of the Neue Künstlervereinigung München (NKVM) in 1909 alongside Wassily Kandinsky.
