Description

Stamped “SAK Purchasing”, probably the Swedish General Art Association.
Day dimensions 46,5 x 29,5 cm. Frame dimensions 61 x 44 cm.

In “Jug”, Inger Lillemor Rudolf-Hall's interest in the concentrated still life motif emerges. The composition is vertically built around a dark jug placed in front of a window or a light-opened portion, creating a clear contrast between form and room. The object is not rendered naturalistically but rather simplified and easily abstracted, with marked outlines and an almost sculptural darkness in the pitcher's body.

The work ties in with Rudolf-Hall's recurring work with still lifes in oil. As with her other works, the focus is not on decorative detail but on the relationship between objects and surrounding spaces. The light is restrained and inward-turning, which gives the painting a serene and pensive character.

Lillemor Rudolf-Hall (1930-) is a Swedish painter and cartoonist with a clear grounding in Scanian art life in the post-war period. She trained at the Essem School in Malmö in 1947—1949 and then continued her studies at Det Kongelige Danske Kunstakademie in Copenhagen around 1950. Study trips to the south of France and Spain helped broaden her coloristic register and deepen interest in the action of light and space in painting.

Rudolf-Hall debuted early in the exhibition context and participated in solo exhibitions as well as significant collective exhibitions in Skåne and Stockholm. Among her solo exhibitions are Galleri Prisma in Stockholm 1967, Krognoshuset in Lund in 1971, Galleri Skånes Konst in Malmö 1984 and Lunds konsthall in 1987. She regularly participated in the exhibitions of Skånes Konstföreningen and the Swedish General Art Society, and also exhibited together with her husband, artist Lennart Hall.

Her art includes still lifes, portraits, figure scenes and landscapes, mainly executed in oil. The painting is characterized by an elaborate composition and a sensitive relationship with color and form, where the everyday character of the motifs is often given a calm, concentrated presence. In her landscapes and interiors, a balance between observation and simplification is noticeable, where color planes and light values support the structure of the image.

She has been awarded several fellowships, including the Ellen Trotzig Scholarship in 1964 and the Malmöhus County Council Cultural Scholarship in 1971. She is represented at, among others, the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm, Helsingborg Museum, Kristianstad Museum, as well as through the Danish Arts Council and regional public collections in southern Sweden.

As part of the Scanian art scene in the latter half of the 20th century, Inger Lillemor Rudolf-Hall occupies a position as a consistently working painter with strong regional roots and a long-standing involvement in the collective exhibition life.
