Ink and pencil on paper, 19 x 14,5 cm (leaf dimensions), including frame 33,5 x 29 cm. Signed and dated Axel Ohlsson Roma 1922 10/5.

In 1922—23 Axel Olson had the opportunity to devote himself wholeheartedly to painting during study trips in Italy and Germany. Via Berlin and Munich, in May 1922 he arrived in Rome, and subsequently continued on to Florence and Venice, where he studied the older masters. In his travel diary, he depicts a sensuous and intense Rome, characterized by heat, dust, folk life and the obvious place of wine in everyday life. The auction's drawing is done during his time in Rome.
