The Dior fashion house saw the light after World War II when designer Christian Dior (1905-1957) showed his collection “The New Look” in 1947, which perfectly captured the neo-Victorian fashion with wide skirts, tightened waist and a tapered shoulder line. This was exactly what customers wanted after a world war, and the collection became iconic. From 1947 until his death in 1957, Dior was the most successful designer in France. His house came to be taken over by a succession of great designers such as Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Bohan, John Galliano and Raf Simons. Dior can be said to represent the French couture and design for the feminine woman.
