Born in 1951, Gustafson began drawing early. “For as long as I can remember, I have been amused by clothes and drawing and drawing. I drew clothes, high-heeled shoes and ladies with big hats as a child — and growing up in the 50s, everyone thought it was so funny about my subjects” (Interview in Elle, July 7, 2023).
