Haring used her artistic platform to raise awareness about AIDS. He himself was diagnosed in 1988. His poster Ignorance = Fear highlights the hardships faced by people living with AIDS. His goal was to reach out to as many people as possible and emphasize the importance of knowledge around AIDS.
In 1989, a year after his diagnosis, Haring founded the Keith Haring Foundation to fund and support AIDS research, charity work, and education.
Keith Haring died on February 16, 1990, aged 31, of AIDS-related complications. The Keith Haring Foundation continues to work to fulfill his vision.
