Image dimensions approx. 32x17 cm, 35x28 cm incl. framework
Other:
Ella Waldenström (1863—1955) belongs to the generation of female artists who emerged around the turn of the century 1800/1900, when the role of artist was gradually opened up to women. Educated at Konstfack and worked as a drawing teacher, she combined her professional life with her own artistry.
She works in the same tradition as artists such as Anna Sahlström, associated with the Society of Artists, as well as Ellen Trotzig, Eva Bonnier and Hanna Hirsch-Pauli. Like them, she sought her subjects in nature and the world of home — areas long considered peripheral but which in their painting took on a new weight.
For Waldenström, the floral still lifes became the obvious center, where she created paintings with a sense of color, light and hues that breathe tranquil poetry, but her artistry also accommodates more unusual interiors: simple chores from everyday life, rendered with the same concentrated presence.
Provenance:
The artist's family.
