"RJ Chatham Commander in the bay of Biscaye Oct 1877" 62x91 cm Owner was Dixon & Harris of London and master was RJ Chatham It measured 1751 gross register tons, dimensions; 85.4x10.3 meters, built in 1876 in Stockton, It met a sad end; on October 1, 1879, it departed New York, bound for Marseilles, France, with grain, and has never since been heard from. The painting is thought to show the ship in the Bay of Biscay.
