Description
Christophe Fratin (1801-1864), hunting dog with pheasant, bronze with brown patina, signed at the foot, with granite base ca. 20 x 28 x 11 cm.
The French sculptor Christophe Fratin comes from Metz and, as the son of a taxidermist, had a particular view of animals. He turned to art as early as the 1820s, received his first education in Metz and later worked in Paris in the studio of Théodore Géricault. He received many commissions in the following period and exhibited at the Salon de Paris at the Great Exhibition in London. At Berlin Palace, Fratin created the crowning figure of the Eagle's Column. Numerous works by Fratin are in public spaces in France.
Condition
Patina in the upper part wiped off more heavily, otherwise minor signs of wear.
