Maria Uhden attended the School of Arts and Crafts in Berlin. In 1915 she met Herwarth Walden, which led to repeated publications and exhibitions of her works in Walden's magazine and the eponymous gallery “Der Sturm”. Since 1917, she was married to the artist Georg Schrimpf.
