Swordsmith: Kanenaga 包永 Region:Yamato大和

Date of Manufacture: 1942-1944 Art Period: Showa (1926-1989) Sword Period: Gendaito (1876-1945) Overall Blade Length: 33cm Appraisal/Certificate of Authenticity included.
Information from: INDEXJAPANESEWORDSMITHS-Markus Sesko KANENAGA (包永), Shōwa (昭和, 1926-1989), Nara – “Kikuichi Monju Shirō Kanenaga” (菊一文珠四郎包永), “Kikuichi Monju saku” (菊一文珠作) A Japanese knife, from WW2, with the customer's name engraved on one handle of the blade and the maker's name on the other side.
The customer's, "英夫"/ "Hideo", was probably a gift from father to son during World War II. The idea with this "gift" was that the son would not surrender alive to the enemy during the war. This was a common occurrence in Japan and has been so since a thousand years of samurai code.
