Hans Erni was a Swiss painter, graphic artist and sculptor. After an apprenticeship as a draftsman, he attended the School of Arts and Crafts in Lucerne and won the annual competition of the Académie Julian in Paris. In the 1930s, he came into contact with avant-garde artists such as Picasso and Braque in Paris. He made national and international orders in various media, including designs for stamps. In 1964 he was a participant in the graphics department of documenta III in Kassel. Numerous solo exhibitions and retrospectives at home and abroad testify to his contemporary popularity.
