Magnus Rietz, b. 1951, is a photographer and author of about ten books. He lives in Nynäshamn and on Gotland. He is a nauticist, a pharologist, i.e. lighthouse enthusiast and coastal hunter. Interest in lighthouses arose in earnest during voyages around the Baltic Sea towards the mid-1980s. In 1996 he co-founded the Swedish Lighthouse Society, where he initiated, among other things, the relighting of about ten lighthouses.

His other interests include the family's dogs, horses and cat along with cultural building maintenance and collecting scrap materials for his carpentry workshop. There is also a great environmental commitment in the marine and maritime field.
