Lyongrün studied in Königsberg and Breslau, then at the Académie Julian in Paris, where he studied with Jules-Joseph Lefebvre and Tony Robert-Fleury. From 1898 he lived in the Hamburg area and became a member of the Hamburg Artists Association. For several years, he also belonged to the Ahrenshoop artists' colony on the Darß.
