John Emanuel Carlson (born 16 July 1896 in Överselö, died 31 March 1979 in Sundbyberg) was a Swedish artist and painter.

Carlson began his art studies at the Technical School's evening and Sunday school between 1912 and 1915. He then studied at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, and at the Art Students League of New York from 1924—1927. He continued his education at the Stockholm School of Art, Department of Kroki, 1932—1934. In addition to this, he undertook several study trips to Denmark, France, Spain, England and Italy, among others.

Between 1915 and 1929, Carlson resided in the United States, where he notably painted landscapes with motifs from the American West, often with elements of Native Americans. He participated in exhibitions at the Brooklyn Museum in the years 1926, 1928, and 1932, as well as in an exhibition in Chicago.

After his return to Sweden, Carlson focused mainly on landscape painting, with motifs from Norrland and the Stockholm area, especially from Sundbyberg, where he was also a resident in his later years.
