Hilda Lindgren became known as an accomplished portrait painter and has painted, among other things, several portraits of Oscar II and Queen Sofia. She was born in 1833 and her artistic career began with the years at Gustaf Brusewitz drawing school in Gothenburg, first as a pupil and later as a teacher. She continued her studies in Stockholm as a pupil of Amalia Lindegren and Carl Gustaf Qvarnström. Like many other female artists, she broke away from the security of Sweden to study in Paris, where she became a pupil at Ange Tissier's women's studio.
Back home in Sweden, she continued to work as an artist while taking up a position as a teacher for the female students at the Gothenburg Drawing School. Over the years, she became a sought-after portrait painter.
Hilda Lindgren is represented at institutions such as the Gothenburg Museum of Art. Her portrait of the artist Amalia Lindegren is in the collections of the Academy of Fine Arts.
