Friedrich Schaper (1869-1956), Blooming Meadows, oil on canvas, 1925, signed and dated, signed again on the back, dated and titled, ca. 42 x 53 cm, with frame approx. 51 x 62 cm

Schaper studied at the Hamburg School of Arts and Crafts, later at the Berlin Academy. He is one of the founding members of the Hamburg Artists' Club from 1897 and was a member of the Hamburger Künstlerverein from 1832. Schaper's painting is influenced by the open-air painting of the late century. With impressionistic, loose brushstrokes, he usually depicts natural aspects of his northern German homeland.
