Endis Bergström was only 21 when she began her studies at the Académie Colarossi in Paris in 1887, and the time spent in France shaped her greatly as an artist. After a couple of years, she moved back home and continued her studies as a pupil with Richard Bergh at the School of the Danish Artists Association in Stockholm, only to return to Paris. It was here that she developed her artistic freedom.

Endis Bergström was not only a talented landscape painter, but also a driven portrait painter - which she demonstrates to perfection in the painting of the auction conducted in Paris in 1893.
