MÄRTA RUDBECK. “Linnea”.
4015106. MÄRTA RUDBECK. “Linnea”.

Description

Oil on panel, 27 x 22 cm. Frame dimensions 35 x 30 cm. Signed Märta Rudbeck.

Märta Rudbeck participated in the first exhibition at the Academy of Fine Arts organized by the Swedish Artists Association in 1911. Three years later she represents Sweden with three portraits at the Baltic Exhibition. It was, of course, a great recognition for a female artist at this time when the art scene was characterized by an almost total male domination. Märta Rudbeck's skill as a portrait painter developed during her years in Paris, where she studied with, among others, René Ménard and Lucien Simon until 1909.

But Märta also developed into a driven painter of flowers with a finely tuned sense of light and colour in her still lifes. The exhibitions replaced each other. Her painting was also represented abroad at art exhibitions in Vienna and Copenhagen.

Although Märta Rudbeck had great talent and participated in a number of exhibitions, her artistry is today forgotten.

The auction's lovely still life 'Linnea' is brilliantly executed with bold brushwork and an intense light that enhances the bright pink tone of the flowers.
