Description

Aircraft model mounted on metal stand anchored in wooden plinth, length 32, maximum height 31 cm.

The SAAB 29 Tunnan (FV type number: aircraft 29, short fpl 29), also called the Flying Tunnan, was a Swedish single-engine reaction-powered fighter aircraft developed by Svenska Aeroplan Aktiebolaget (SAAB) on order from the Swedish Air Force to replace aircraft 21, fpl 26, fpl 28 and fpl 31. The plane was the first arrow-winged fighter aircraft to be mass-produced in Western Europe after World War II and the first of SAAB's fighter aircraft to be given a name, the Tunnan (or Flying Tunnan), originally coined as a nickname after its appearance.

The aircraft was in active military service in Sweden and Austria between the years 1951 and 1972. The J 29 was considered on an equal footing with contemporary American (F-86) and Soviet (MiG-15) planes and had great importance for Swedish aviation industry.
