Description

Vadim Abramovich Sidur (1924-1986), seated figure, pen drawing, 1984, signed and dated in Cyrillic, ca. 43.5 x 31.5 cm (sheet size), framed behind glass, with frame ca. 63 x 52.5 cm

Sidur comes from Katerinoslav (now Dnipro in Ukraine) and was a Soviet sculptor and graphic artist with Jewish and Russian roots. In Germany, his bronze sculptures are particularly well known in public spaces. He studied in Moscow and his artistic work came into conflict with the official Soviet art doctrine. His works were not exhibited until the reform policy at the end of the 1980s. In the West, however, he achieved recognition and fame as early as the 1970s. Sculptures by Sidur have been set up in Düsseldorf, Berlin and Kassel, among others. It was only after his death that his work was recognized in Russia and was compared with sculptors such as Henry Moore, Jacques Lipchitz and Alberto Giacometti.
