CARLO BUGATTI, unique exotic cupboard, around 1900, frame in walnut marquetry in ivory, pewter and mother of pearl, the cabinet body, with arches and columns clad in copper plate, top with two doors and arches and balustrades, doors decorated with oriental figurative scenes possibly by Riccardo Pellegrini (1863 -1934), decoration of incised copper plate reliefs, height 173, width 75 cm, depth 38 cm. Carlo Bugatti, born February 16, 1856 in Milan, died March 31, 1940 in Alsace, was an Italian designer and painter. Carlo Bugatti was one of the leading designers around the turn of the century. He was the father of the sculptor Rembrandt Bugatti and the automotive legend Ettore Bugatti. Bugatti is a traditional Italian family of artists and Carlo Bugatti dedicated his whole life first to furniture designs in his homeland and later decorative arts, mainly in Paris. He received many awards during his lifetime and was represented at the most important international exhibitions. His art was distinctly inspired by African and Oriental culture and combined exclusive materials. Carlo Bugatti participated in several of the major Paris salons and world exhibitions and is currently represented in several of the world's leading arts museums such as the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
