“When the IMPALA seating furniture series was launched in the IKEA catalog in 1972, it was presented as “a furniture event”. That the odd shape would provoke reactions was something IKEA both anticipated and welcomed. The catalogue presented IMPALA as follows: “It would be nice to know your first impression. Do you feel the allure of the continental, new environmental ideas? Do you see IMPALA as luxurious, different, 'difficult', fashionable or even ordinary furniture?
