HISTORIAN:
Ingrid Hjertén studied with Edward Berggren and Edvin Ollers, as well as in Paris for André Lhote. At Lhote, Hjertén laid the foundation for a Cubist painting that became more pronounced over the years.
She made her debut in 1943 at Galleri S:t Lucas in Stockholm and participated in numerous exhibitions.
Her subject world is still lifes and landscapes, and above all flowers.

Women Artists - Famous and Forgotten

In recent years, there has been a great deal of effort to highlight significant female artistry. The work has resulted in Sigrid Hjertén, Vera Nilsson, Siri Derkert and others now ranking as highly as their peer male contemporary colleagues.
An important project was Moderna Museet's venture The Second Wish Museum, 2006-2009, which aimed to supplement the collection with works by women artists mainly from the first half of the 20th century. The museum acquired, among others, Tora Vega Holmström's work Strangers.
