Ignasi Mundó i Marcet (1918-2012) was a prominent Catalan painter known for his figurative style, which embraced elements of Expressionism, Post-Impressionism and Realism. He was born in Barcelona and studied at Escola de la Lonja under the tutelage of masters such as Joaquim Mir and Manolo Hugué. From 1945 to 1948 he lived in Paris, where he was in contact with artists such as Georges Braque, which had a significant influence on his work.
Throughout his career, Mundó explored various subjects, including urban landscapes, still lifes and portraits. His work is characterised by his vigorous use of colour and light, elements he considered essential to capture the essence of the objects and scenes he painted. He was also a prolific draughtsman, always carrying a notebook with him to capture everyday scenes with an agile and expressive stroke.
