Teodoro Delgado was a Spanish painter and illustrator born in Campillo de La Jara. From an early age he had an artistic inclination, influenced by his environment and his family's artistic tradition. Throughout his career, he excelled in both painting and illustration, being renowned for his ability to capture scenes with great detail and delicacy.
In the 1950's, Delgado made his first trip to Switzerland, where he began to decorate porcelain of renowned brands such as Rosenthal, Limoges and Sèvres with Spanish-inspired miniatures. The delicacy and perfection of those works were compared to the paintings by Fragonard. During the 1960's, his artistic maturity was reflected in the illustration of literary works such as ‘Don Quixote’, ‘David Copperfield’ and ‘The Womb of Paris’. However, his most ambitious work of this period was the illustration of the Bible for the publishing house Edaf, a project that took him a full year of intensive work.
In the 1970's, Delgado continued to experiment with new techniques, devoting himself mainly to oil painting. His work includes a wide range of topics, from portraits to landscapes, and is characterised by a style that combines colouristic Romanticism with influences from artists such as Goya. His exhibitions were received with great admiration and his paintings, full of light and beauty, reflect a deep rootedness in the Spanish tradition. Teodoro Delgado died on 1 June 1975, leaving a significant legacy in Spanish art.
