Ben Willikens,"Room with sink", serigraph (after the same. gouache), 1990, signed (front lower right) and dated (1990).
Dimensions: 56.5 x 70 cm (height x width) Ben Willikens (June 21, 1939 in Leipzig) The Weißenhofsiedlung built on the Killesberg in Stuttgart is one of the most important examples of “new building” in Germany. Under the masterful direction of Mies van der Rohes and 17 architects from Germany, Austria, Holland and Switzerland, 21 houses with a total of 63 apartments were built.
Ben Willikens dealt with architecture like no other painter. However, he interprets the current buildings in his own strictly composed manner and transforms them into a kind of "stage area in grisaille" or into a monochrome monumentality. They are artistic dialogues, on their own level, which he reduces to a light-dark relationship and to their own character. They are spatial relationships in a strictly conjugated form that evoke ambivalence in the viewer and an orderly perception. It is the associative thoughts on panel painting that create a bridge from the past to the omnipresent moment of contemplation.
Other works by Ben Willikens such as canvases and gouaches were acquired by the »Daimler Art Collection« for the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart and made available to it on permanent loan.
Very good condition. Framed behind glass.
