Anna Billing grew up in a cultured family. Her father was the artist Tore Billing and her mother the opera singer Elma Ström. Her parents helped her daughter financially to embark on the artistic path and Anna Billing studied with Johan Christoffer Boklund, August Malmström and Kerstin Cardon. Billing then travelled on to Paris for studies and was a pupil of the flower painter Georges Jeannin. She exhibited at the Paris Salon of 1884, a recognition of her talent. Back home in Sweden, Anna Billing participated in the Stockholm Exhibition in 1897.
