3322384. JAN VERHOEVEN (1870-1941). Still life.
Description
Jan Verhoeven (1870-1941), still life, oil on canvas, around 1940, signed, ca. 60 x 74.5, with frame ca. 70 x 84.5
Provenance: Fischer Collection
Jan Verhoeven is still one of the few undiscovered pioneers of modernity. From 1900 he lived in Paris and maintained contacts with important artists such as Piet Mondrian, Kees van Dongen and Henri Matisse. He was part of the Fauves group. His non-expressionist works are rarely found on the market and date from around 1940 when he had already become the focus of the National Socialists as a 'degenerate artist'.
