Oil on canvas signed lower right by A. Zimmermann, probably Alfred Zimmermann dt. Painter and etcher (*1854 Munich to †1910 drowned in Gstadt am Chiemsee), from 1872 studied at the Academy in Munich, 1874 trip to Paris, became an opera singer, from 1888 working primarily as a landscape painter, illustrator for the magazine Die Jugend, friendship with Wilhelm Trübner and Wilhelm Leibl, source Internet, portrait half piece of a monk sitting at the table with good wine and book, ca. 30.5 x 40.5 cm, in shellac frame with golden decorative strip ca. 46 x 56 cm.
