Lars Tunbjörk (1956-2015) began his career as a press photographer at Borås Tidning in the early 1970s. He eventually moved to Stockholm and got assignments for Aftonbladet, Stockholms Tidningen and Dagens Arbeit, among others. Tunbjörk got his big break as an artist with the picture series “Landet but sig” in the early 1990s. Through this photo project and book, he became one of Sweden's most famous and popular photographers. Tunbjörk depicts the remains of folkhemmets Sweden; people in campsites, shopping malls and department stores. In the midst of everyday life and ongoing life. The pictures tighten the absurd and are full of humor and sadness. His work became style-forming and a “Tunbjörkare” became a concept. His work influenced our vision and inspired filmmakers and photographers all over the world.

Tunbjörk alternated projects in Sweden with assignments abroad and he has worked for New York's Times, Time and Le Monde, among others. His work has been shown in exhibitions in Sweden, among others, at Moderna Museet but also internationally in Tokyo, Paris and New York.
