Mina Bredberg began studying painting at the Académie Julian in Paris in 1883 and remained there for seven years. The time spent in France shaped her artistry. Mina not only masters outdoor painting with skillful brushwork, but is also appreciated by art audiences for her portraits and captivating images of children. She exhibited a portrait at the Paris Salon of 1887 and her self-portrait at the 1889 Paris World's Fair. Subsequently, her portraits were adopted for exhibitions in Copenhagen and Chicago.
After her return to Sweden, she worked as a teacher at Elisabeth Keyser's school of painting in Stockholm. The two had met in Paris and developed a friendship. Mina Bredberg's Impressionist-influenced realism developed during the 1890s towards a lighter and freer style, which is most strongly expressed in her everyday depictions of children.
