LITERATURE Mentioned in 1924 in the artist's list of works as "Summer evening on an archipelago island" The motif is probably taken from an island near the artist's summer home outside Källvik, possibly Kalvö, Rågö or Tättö. The mountain formation on the horizon that looms behind the trunks could possibly be the Swalklinten, known for its red cliffs.

The painting is Kallstenius' largest known painting alongside paintings intended for public environments.
