EXHIBITIONS USA, Pittsburgh, Carnegie Institute, 22nd International Exhibition of Paintings, April 26-June 17, 1923 Västervik, Kulturhuset, Gottfrid Kallstenius 1861-1943. Memorial exhibition, 14 November-19 December 1993, No. 37 “Sunset. 1922".

LITERATURE The artist's list of works during 1922, "Evening by the beach (Tättö) 80 x 120".

The exhibition in Pittsburgh in 1922 was very extensive. In addition to Kallstenius, several well-known Swedish artists were represented, including Ander Zorn, Bruno Liljefors. J. A. G. Acke.

In connection with the exhibition, on October 30, 1923, Clément Morro wrote a long article about Kallstenius in La Revue Moderne, no. 20, pp. 19-21 which was illustrated by several of his works. About the painting in question he wrote: "Professor Gottfried Kallstenius, of the Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm, rightly regarded as one of the best contemporary painters, participated in the recent exhibition in Pittsburgh with a very beautifully executed landscape, which reveals his remarkable qualities as a colorist at the same time as his talent as both a deep and sensitive Nordic poet. Gottfried Kallstenius is a writer who, in addition to technical writings on painting methods, has published poems. His painting in itself is enough to reveal a man of letters, as such expressive works, even when it concerns simple landscapes, but even more so in the important symbolic compositions in which he made himself a master, show a deep general education which to and with precedes the pictorial technique./ His successes have been many. The most significant awards he received are two gold medals in Munich, one in Rome, as well as in San Francisco, Saint Louis, Buenos-Aires. A large number of his canvases feature prominently in museums in Stockholm, Gothenburg, Brighton, Lübeck, Munich, Helsinki, Budapest, as well as in America. From this world-renowned artist, we wish to receive some works in our country in the near future, where they would without a doubt receive the best reception." 22nd Annual International Exhibition of Paintings — Carnegie Museum of Art.
