Description

Tsar Nicholas I is depicted in a general's uniform with a blue ribbon of St. Andrew's Order and many other orders.

Nikolaus I or Nikolai I Pavlovich, born 1796 in Gattjina, now Leningrad Oblast, died 1855, was Tsar of Russia, King of Poland and Grand Duke of Finland between 1825–1855 Note: The work is probably a repetition of a painting painted by Krüger.
Franz Krüger studied at the Berlin Academy of Fine Arts, where he later became a professor.
Krüger portrayed members of the Prussian ruling family and representatives of princely families.
In 1935, on behalf of the Russian court, he painted a portrait of Tsar Nicholas I, which was later placed in the summer residence in Carskim Siole. Kruger was given permission to make replicas of the portrait and this one we now have for auction is one of them.

The painting was painted around 1835-1837.

99x73.5 cm, frame dimensions 117x96 cm.
