Description
Oil on canvas, 43.5 x 36.3 cm. Signed and dated GK 96. Bequest stamp on back PROVENANCE Swedish-French Art Gallery, Stockholm, Art auction. List of Gottfrid Kallstenius' legacy collection of his own and other artists' works, 30 March 1944, no. 114 "Evening air and pines. Oil painting. Cloth. HRS. 43 cm. Bro. 36 cm.”.
Performed on Borsö in the Trosa archipelago where Kallstenius and his wife Gerda, nee Roosval and their two young children spent the summer months in 1895-96 after their return to Sweden in 1894 from a multi-year stay abroad in France and Italy. They rented a cabin there from a fisherman and small farmer on the island, "Borsö-Lina". Also a painting with a similar motif in the same size executed in 1895, was included in the auction of the artist's estate at the Svensk-Franska Konstgalleriet 30 March 1944, op. cit., no. 95 "Borsö forest. Oil painting. Cloth. Sign. GK 95. HRS. 43 cm. Bro. 36 cm.”.
