Provenance: private collection, Hamburg (formerly acquired in Pakistan) The Pakistani artist Anna Molka Ahmed was a pioneer of painting after Pakistan's independence in 1947 and was a professor of fine arts at the University of Punjab in Lahore.
She was born in England and converted to Islam at the age of 18. In 1939 she married Sheikh Ahmed, who was then studying in London. Anna Molka Ahmed studied painting, sculpture and design at the St. Martin School of Arts in London and received a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Art before moving to Lahore in 1940 and beginning to teach painting and fine arts at the University of Punjab .
Anna divorced her husband in 1951, but stayed in Pakistan with her two daughters until her death in 1994.
She was known as a painter of atmospheric landscapes, figurative compositions and sensitive portraits.
Significant flaking off in the central depiction area - in dire need of restoration. Frame with signs of wear.
