Image dimensions: 27.8 x 34.3 cm / 10.9 x 13.5 Sheet dimensions: 48.0 x 40.0 cm / 18.9 x 15.8 Victor Vasarely (April 9, 1908 Pécs/15. March 1997 in Paris) Victor Vasarely was born on April 9, 1908 in Pécs, Hungary. He began his artistic training in 1927 at a private drawing school in Budapest. In the following year, the artist moves to the training center "Mühely" (Eng. "Workshop") under the direction of Sándor Bortnyik. At this school, the ideas of the Bauhaus are primarily conveyed.
After moving to Paris in 1930, Vasarely worked successfully as a commercial artist, systematically researching the optical and emotional possibilities of various graphic media. In 1947, this led him to the realization that with geometric means sensory perceptions could be evoked that conveyed new ideas about space, matter and energy. Vasarely develops an independent geometric abstraction, the variations of which lead to optical patterns with kinetic effects.
The artist arranges geometric shapes in bright colors in a latticework in such a way that the eye gets the impression of fluctuating movement. Vasarely thus significantly influenced the emergence of Op Art.
