Fujiwo Ishimoto, born in 1941 in Japan, is a ceramicist and textile designer who started working at Marimekko in 1974.
In the 60s in Tokyo, Fujiwo Ishimoto saw fabrics designed by Maija Isola, and he was so impressed that he decided to go to Finland and find out what Finnish design was all about. Ishimoto is inspired by the surrounding nature and its phenomena. His forms are often minimalist, combined with lively structures. His ceramics and textiles he received several prizes and awards in different parts of the world.
