Carmelo Arden-Quin (1913-2010) was a prominent Uruguayan-French artist and co-founder of the artistic movement known as "concrete art" in the 1930's.
He was born in Uruguay and moved to Paris in the 1930's, where he became an influential member of the "Circle and Square" group of artists, together with Torres-García. Concrete art focusses on geometric shapes, abstraction and technical accuracy. Arden-Quin developed a distinctive style that fused elements of geometric abstraction with an experimental approach, using materials such as metal and wood to create three-dimensional works. His sculptures and paintings explored the relationship between space, shape and colour, reflecting his interest in simplicity and visual clarity. He is considered a major contributor to 20th Century abstract art.
Made for "Suite Olympic Centennial" and published by Centennial Editorial (Martí March) in Barcelona in 1992. Reference literature: M. Basso and C. Durán-Basté, "Suite Olympic Centennial: 50 Grands Peintres", Lausanne, Musée Olympique, 1994; "Suite Olympic Centennial: obra gráfica contemporánea", Málaga, Provincial Council of Málaga, Culture and Education Area, 1997.
