A Russian dragoon saber w/1881 from the Tsar's light cavalry.
The dragoons (French for dragon) were an infantry that fought on foot but were moved on horseback.
This type of saber was exported to Persia, among others.
The total length is approx. 104.5 cm, the length of the blade is approx. 80 cm.
The blade is stamped with Cyrillic letters HG-7 and B 9538, the same stamp can be found on the hand guard. The saber is not star-stamped, which places it in the tsarist era.
The pod is painted in olive green, and provided with a leash ring and a mount for a bayonet of model Mosin-Nagant w/ 1891, which is unfortunately missing.
The blade is double ground and provided with a wide blood groove.
The blade is loose, the brass is discolored, there are scratches and surface rust.
