Description
Herbert Holzing (1931-2000), illustration for Otfried Preußler's novel 'Krabat', monotype, 1976, signed, dated and inscribed 'Original Illustration', approx. 30 x 41 cm (passe-partout section), framed behind passe-partout and glass, with frame approx. 49x62.8 cm.
The award-winning illustrator Herbert Holzing attended the Karlsruhe Art Academy and the Trier Art School, worked as a commercial artist and became one of the most important book illustrators in West Germany. His illustrations can be found in countless publications. He created many illustrations for Otfried Preußler's texts, including the little witch or Krabat. The present monotype was probably created on the occasion of the 1976 new edition of the classic children's book.
