Description

Oil on canvas 36 x 39 cm.

BERTIL BERNTSSON Born in 1921 and died in 2002. Bertil Berntsson was educated at Valand in Gothenburg from the end of the 1930s and continued at the Skånska painting school in Malmö 1945-1946 and studies with André Lhote in Paris in 1949. From being a traditional landscape painter in the sense of the time, he switched during the 1950s to a stripped-down, almost puritanical technique in strong colors. But time made his color duller and we see an example of this in the auction's work from 1963. Berntsson had a second breakthrough in the 1980s when Anders Tornberg Gallery in Lund and Galleri Ferm in Malmö showed He has made public decorations in Malmö (Rosengård, Mölledalsskolan, Malmö Östra Hospital, Skåne University Hospital), Helsingborg's hospital, and Torpedverkstaden in Karlskrona. He is represented at Moderna Museet, Malmö Art Museum, Ystad Art Museum, Helsingborg City Museum, Halland Art Museum in Halmstad, Regional Museum Kristianstad, Lund University's collection and the Museum of Sketches in Lund.
