Description

Oil on canvas 30 x 24 cm.

Agda Holst was born in 1876 and died in 1975. She longed to be out in the world early on and already in 1907, aged 21, she traveled to Paris to study at the Academie Colarossi with, among others, Christan Krohg. She continued her studies in Munich with Julius Exter in 1910-1911 and in Paris with Kees Van Dongen. She then went back to her hometown of Kristianstad. In the early 1920s, she returned to Paris for new studies. This time with the famous André Lhote and it was during this period that she really found her style, the new objectivity mixed with a wayward cubism. It was also during the 20s that she painted her most fantastic portraits. During the rest of her artistic life, which was long and productive, she lived in Kristianstad and had regular exhibitions. She had solo exhibitions in Skåne and collective exhibitions in Stockholm, Copenhagen, Bordeaux and New York.
The painting depicted here is a well-balanced still life that was probably painted in the 1940s.
