2480329. LARS WALLIN. Basket, hand-knotted bast, red-coloured, Uganda.

Description

Bowl in red colored bast, height approx. 15.5 cm, diameter approx. 29 cm.

Provenance: The basket and dish were made during a charity project in Uganda that was started by women who moved from Uganda to Sweden. They started production of the baskets among women's collectives in local villages who wove the baskets to be sold in Scandinavia. Lars Wallin was brought into the project to design baskets, teach blast dyeing and create a system to achieve a functioning production where one weaver could take over the tying of one basket from another. In connection with this, he visited Uganda to meet the women, produce templates and train the weavers in the dyeing in person.
