Description

Johan Peter Molin (1814-1873), sculpture / figurine, 'The Knife Fighters', bronze. Dark brown patinated cast bronze depicting two entwined duelists with knives, tied together at the hips by a belt, according to mythical tradition, mounted on an oval plinth and postamental base with relief scenes, relief scenes depicting the phases of the duel, as well as three of flanked by tendril-shaped runic inscriptions, signed 'Molin fecit' and foundry 'Chr. Lenz', H.95cm, L.51cm, W.29cm.


This sculpture was cast in small numbers by 'Christoph Albrecht Lenz' in the Lenz bronze foundry in Nuremberg and represented the main work of the foundry in the 1900 catalogue. The monumental large sculpture from 1859 has been in front of the Stockholm National Museum since 1867 and is the sculptor's best-known work. This was also cast by the Lenz foundry.

Condition

Age-appropriate rubbing marks and patina, as well as partially minor scratches.
