1864397. AXEL PETERSSON "DÖDERHULTARN". Sculpture, carved wood, Boy on potty. Hand and stamp signed.
Description
Rare sculpture.
Height approx. 17 cm.
Axel Robert Pettersson (1868-1925), today known as "Döderhultarn", went by a completely different name for a time. The self-taught woodcarver early sold his figures in the local area for twelve shillings and therefore soon came to bear the denomination's name.
For many years he was only recognized in local contexts and managed to reach his 40s before the big breakthrough came. But after that it went fast. After the caricature exhibition in Stockholm in 1909, his wooden men were soon seen at exhibitions in Brighton, Paris, Rome and Turin. This was followed by several exhibitions in the USA.
